Healthy Hair is Happy Hair. One Important Part in that Process Is Minimizing Heat Damage to Hair - ASAP!

Stop or Minimize Heat Damage to Your Hair When Blow Drying Hair

First, be sure to towel-dry your hair thoroughly before using a blow dryer. You'll save time and avoid damaging your hair with too much heat.

Be sure to use a thermal protectant cream or thermal protectant spray on hair. These styling aids put a thin coating on the hair strands to shield them from excessive heat. Many of the more recent thermal protectant creams, lotions, potions, and oils also help to protect hair from humidity by sealing the hair cuticle.

Next, opt for a ceramic hair dryer - or even better, a far-infrared hair dryer. These types of hair dryers help to minimize risk of heat damage

When actually drying hair, start by throwing head upside down and drying the thicker under layers first. When hair is about 3/4 of the way dry, toss head back upright. Then, use a big paddle brush - or very large round brush - to dry the top layers. Be sure to use a lower heat on the top layers if your hair is even slightly dry or damaged.

After the hair is completely dry, brush it gently with a natural-hair brush. Put a little bit of a silicone or Argan oil finishing cream or oil in your palm and rub it with the other hand until it's on the fingertips of both hands. Then, pinch the ends of your hair with your fingertips. Finally, brush through your hair one more time.

*If you decide to use a flat iron, use the lowest heat setting that will straighten your hair with one pass. Keep the iron moving in a single motion through the hair - steadily and smoothly.
